Youssef Amrani was Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and is currently in charge of the Royal Cabinet Mission. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in 1978 as Secretary of Foreign Affairs. From 1989 to 1992 he served as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State for the Arab Maghreb Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1992 to 1996 he held the position of Consul General of Morocco in Barcelona. He has been Ambassador of His Majesty the King in several countries in the Americas (1996-2003). From 2003 to 2008 he held the post of Ambassador, Director General of Bilateral Relations at the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. He was Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (2008-2011), and held the post of Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (2011-2012).
